Only about 22 percent of American adults engage in regular, sustained physical activity for at least 30 minutes five times a week, and only 15 percent exercise both regularly and vigorously.

AUGSBURG WORKOUT FACILITIES

The following is a list of facilities available for use by faculty/staff of Augsburg College. It is accurate to the best of my knowledge, but changes do occur. I have tried to include names of responsible parties in each area, so you can refer to them if you have further questions. NOTE: IF THE COLLEGE IS CLOSED (ie Christmas break/Easter break) ALL WORKOUT FACILITIES WILL ALSO BE CLOSED!!

Locker Room Facilities
Any woman interested in obtaining a locker in Melby should contact Melissa Lee (x1239). The women's locker room now has a combination lock on the outside door. Call Melissa Lee (x1239) or e-mail leem3@augsburg.edu or Joyce at x1247 or e-mail pfaff@augsburg.edu for the combination. The Men's Faculty/Staff locker room is located next to the racquetball court. Contact Chris Brown at x1301 or e-mail brownc3@augsburg.edu for the combination.

Melby Hall/Kennedy Center
is open from 6:00 am - 10:00 pm M-F, Noon to 6:00 pm Saturday and Noon to 8:00 pm on Sunday. These are the times you will be able to use the locker room facilities.

The Racquetball/Handball Court
is reserved for faculty/staff use from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm M-F. Sign up sheets are put up (just outside the court) at the end of each month for the following month. Kris Kraft (x 1504) or e-mail <kraft> is in charge of putting up the sheets. If you would like to reserve time on a permanent weekly basis, it is best to inform her via e-mail.

The Fitness Centers (Messerer in Si Melby and Haglund Fitness Center in the Kennedy Center)
are open from:
*6:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. M-F
12:00 Noon - 6:00 p.m. SAT.
12:00 Noon - 8:00 p.m. SUN.

Our lifetime sport class FOUNDATIONS OF FITNESS (several sections) will be using the Haglund Fitness Center much of the day from 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM M-F. Faculty and staff will be allowed to workout during these times providing there aren't too many additional bodies. We will do everything we can to accommodate your schedule as long as it is understood that our classes have priority on the equipment. The Messerer Fitness Center in Si Melby will be open for you to use during these times.

*Note the early opening times! This is a perfect time for you to use the facility (the crowds are down at this time of day), so let's try and get an early morning workout going!!

The Edor Nelson Athletic Field
is available for activity (running/walking etc.) until 3:00 p.m. most every day. One mile is approximately five times around the soccer field boundaries. You can enter the field through Melby Hall. General Information: Greg Holker x 1424 - e-mail: holker@augsburg.edu

The Air Structure
goes up the middle of November and stays up until the beginning of April (depending on weather) It is usually available for use before 3:30 p.m. M-F.

The air structure may be closed for other classes periodically. They should be posted on the door one week in advance. Before you come over, you may want to call the facilities staff listed below.

The Ice Arena
is open from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. M-F for open skating. You must bring your own skates. We do not have rental skates available. You can enter the ice arena through Melby Hall or Riverside Ave. General Information: Kris Kraft x 1504 or e-mail kraft@augsburg.edu

Two Tennis Courts
are located on the West Side of Mortensen Tower and the South side of Anderson Hall. They are available for you use on a first come, first serve basis when classes are not using them. Check the class schedule for times and dates they will be reserved for class.

Intramural Activities
are open to all faculty/staff. We would encourage your participation. Activities can be set up specifically for faculty/staff. To get more information or give ideas for programs contact: Tim Gormley x1511 or e-mail: gormley@augsburg.edu

The Center for Counseling and Health Promotion
These offices work with the campus community to create an environment where healthy behaviors are seen as the norm. The counseling staff is available to faculty and staff for consultations regarding students and for referrals regarding personal issues. Throughout the year, the CCHP staff offers many campus-wide health events from guest lecturers to the annual health fair.

College of St. Catherine (Butler Pool)

Enter on North entrance (Randolph Street). Go South past O'Shaughnessy and keep going until you come to a parking lot at the end of the drive. The Butler Center will be on your right (west).

Cost: $4.00 (includes locker key/bring your own towel)

Open swim and lap times change periodically, so it is best to CALL BEFORE YOU GO!

MIDTOWN YWCA (2121 East Lake St.)

Master's Swimming: In addition to lap swimming, master's swimming is available for anyone 18 and older. This includes workouts for all ability levels. Participants include those who are swimming for fitness as well as competition. All levels are welcome! Free for YWCA members; non-members may use a punch card ($40 for 10).
