SquashScholars is an after-school academic enrichment program based in Minneapolis, Minnesota that combines tutoring, mentoring, and the game of squash for middle and high school students. Our primary goal is to help students dramatically improve their academic performance and athletic skills leading to personal growth, high school graduation, and success in college or other endeavors. We completed our first year of operation in May 2008 culminating with a signature event, the first annual Midwest Urban Squash Challenge, in which we went head-to-head with METROsquash’s current sixth graders. We were also successful in the classroom, where our cumulative grade point average for all students improved and two students made the honor roll.
