Course Description:
This course is intended to introduce students to American Indian Studies. Concepts and topics to be covered include, among others, history, language, culture, literature, policy, images, contemporary issues, and the arts. Minnesota Indians will be emphasized where appropriate.
Students Rights and Responsibilities:
All students have the right to use the College Counseling and Student Development staff services, as well as to receive tutoring assistance from the writing lab program. The Augsburg College policy on academic honesty applies to this course. Attendance is Mandatory.

Course grade will consist of:
Mid-term 30% 10/22
Final Exam 40% 12/17
Paper 30% 12/12
Exams will have a variety of formats including multiple choice, matching, short identification, short answer or short essay.
The research paper should be 5-7 pages in length. Topics can include but are not limited to current or historical events, (i.e. gaming, hunting and fishing rights, the Dakota Conflict of 1862) or research on historical Indian figures. All topics must be cleared through the instructor. This paper should include at least four references in the bibliography and must be properly cited or it will not be accepted. If you do not know how to properly cite a paper then you should consult the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, by Gibeldi and Achtert, which is available at most libraries.
