NEWS Updated 10/23/06 Kyle Sontag Accepted to Graduate School: Kyle has already been accepted to graduate school at the University of Florida and the Georgia Institute of Technology. We wish Kyle well as he makes big decisions. Alison Heussler Wins Award: Alison won an Sigma Delta Epsilon Undergraduate Research Award for $250. This money will be used to support her current research projects. Gaurav Saini Visits: Gaurav Saini is a graduate student in Environmental Engineering at OSU, he visited Augsburg Nov 26-29. Gaurav gave a great seminar on using upscaling techniques and bacterial adhesion. Dr. Jeff Buboltz Visits: Dr. Buboltz is a Professor of Physics at Colgate College. He will visit Augsburg to share results of his recent research activities in lipid biophysics (11.20.06). Students Present More Work: Ben Sonquist and Alison Heussler will present results at the 17th Annual Symposium for Undergraduates in Science, Engineering, and Mathematics at Argonne National Labs (11.3.06). Lab Member Selected to Olympic Team! Chemistry major Kyle Sontag has been selected to play forward on the United States Deaf Hockey Team. Dr. Sarah Veatch Visits: Dr. Veatch is a longtime friend of the lab and currently a Post-Doctoral researcher at Cornell University. She visited with Augsburg Students and gave an excellent introduction to lipid phase transitions and their biological implications (9.18.06 ). Students Present Work: Erik Lundberg presented results of his years research project at the spring meeting of the Minnesota Area Association of Physics Teachers (4.29.06). Paper Accepted!!! Phase Behavior of Lipid Monolayers Containing DPPC and Cholesterol Analogs has been accepted for publication in the Biophysical Journal.Biophysical Society: Ben will be presenting research on sterol/phospholipid miscibility at the Biophysical Society Meeting in Salt Lake City this February. Microscope Arrived: Our brand new Fluorescence Microscope has just arrived! Thanks to Augsburg College and Leeds Precision Instruments for the support, to learn more about Leeds visit their website.
