A draft of a possible schedule for July 2005

The CGE Namibia staff will plan the schedule and the final copy will be sent close to our travel time. However, I can give you an idea what I have requested, and experienced during my first two visits.

Arrival July 1

Week 1: Safety, orientation, build foundational knowledge, visit area schools

Introduction to the CGE guesthouse, and the policies that have been developed to keep visitors safe. During the first week, we will tour the Windhoek area, learn about the history of Namibia, which includes the tribal groups and the colonization periods, the declaration of independence in 1990. Understand the current system of Education, the impact of HIV/AIDS on schools and society, the economic challenges. Visit schools in the Windhoek area 2 mornings. Hopefully visit the U.S. Embassy in Windhoek.

Week 2: Travel to the north, Woodcarver's Market, Etosha Park, visit schools in Ovambo land. An overnight at Swakopmund/Walvis Bay, coastal cities. Visit a Teacher Center in Tsumeb.

Week 3: One day conference with Namibian teachers and stakeholders - July 16.

Planning to have speakers and facilitators from Namibia and our group.

Self directed time during the final 4 days.

July 22: completion of the travel seminar.

The above ideas are tentative since my Namibian colleagues will need to make the arrangements and thus have the final word about our schedule.
