Purple staghorn coral cuttings being started for study (with student Jean Johnson) of effects of water flow and water surge on the growth form and skeleton density of stony corals.

These colonies were started by gluing small cuttings to the ends of glass rods using superglue. The cuttings shown here have now grown on to the glass rods and have firmly attached themselves, and will soon be moved into different water flow conditions (in tanks all plumbed to the same larger system, thus providing identical water chemistry for the diffrerent water flow treatments).
