Auction Preview: Vacation Properties

In addition to the exciting lineup of live auction items to be unveiled at the Gala, we
are offering two exceptional vacation homes for pre-auction purchase:

Pre-Auction Opportunity: Oregon Coastal Home | One week in the U.S. Pacific Northwest

This breathtaking private retreat in the wondrous Northwest is particularly special because it’s the generational family home of a longtime faithful supporter of Augsburg College and the StepUP program, Christopher McIver. He and his extended family have gathered here for retreats, reunions and quiet getaways for many years. He offers its majestic and pristine beauty in honor of all StepUP graduates, past, present and future.

The McIver Home is nestled between the Oregon coast and Neaconi mountain range, so a week-long vacation here offers every imaginable activity, from fantastic fishing, hiking and beachcombing (on the longest stretch of Oregon beach) to seeing incredible vistas and sites. Small picturesque towns dot the 101 Highway Coast to create vision after vision of unparalleled beauty, although you might just want to stay curled up next to the fireplace in this $4-million stunner. It sleeps 13 (five bedrooms easily hold 11 beds – some bunks for kids, or kid-adults!), has 3½ baths, elegant living and dining areas, fully-equipped kitchen (granite counter tops, of course) and outdoor patio/furniture. For could anyone come here and NOT sit outside in this Eden, soaking in the peace and scents of towering pines, forests, mountains, and salty ocean air?

Augsburg College and the StepUP Program thank and salute Christopher McIver for not just his Oregon vacation home donation, but for Villa La Percha and Casa Celina too, as well as his many dedicated years of hard work for StepUP. An avid and tireless advocate on behalf of all dealing with substance addictions, Christopher has done over 500 interventions, helping people come to terms with their disease.

Pre-Auction Opportunity: Palmilla Penthouse | One week in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

How do you top a “Best Tropical Beaches in the World” rating from Condé Nast?

The Palmilla Penthouse is a truly private retreat on the beaches of Cabo, elegant and providing everything you possibly need, including a fully equipped gourmet kitchen and lovely indoor and outdoor dining and living areas. Three bedrooms and three baths comfortably accommodate six people for sleeping, plus space for get-togethers with the new friends you make on the private golf course (this penthouse includes a golf cart too!), tennis courts, spa and excursions.

The luxury home offers spectacular ocean views in every direction, and for one evening—or more—you might want to just kick back, grill a feast in the patio’s fire pit, then sit back and soak in your Jacuzzi or private pool while watching the world go by in the picturesque bay.

Special thanks to Elite Homes, too, for donating the Palmilla Retreat. Vacation times to be arranged with owners; holidays and spring breaks not available. Email questions on the vacations homes to Christophermci@mac.com.

Live Auction Item: Villa La Percha | One week in Turks and Caicos

Experience paradise with soft white sands, unimaginably brilliant aqua sea and gentle tropical breezes in the spectacular Turks and Caicos Islands, once an exclusive get-away for the DuPonts and Roosevelts. Beautifully furnished inside and out for true indoor and outdoor living, it features a personal swimming dock on Sapodilla Bay, artfully shaped private swimming pool and sunbathing seclusion, as well as tennis courts just steps away.

Overlooking a quiet neighborhood, Villa La Percha is ideal for families or groups, sleeps 8, and features 4½ baths (master bedrooms each have adjoining bathrooms), and lovely terrace views of either Chalk Sound, the ocean or walk-out to poolside patio. Large indoor living and dining rooms—as well as beautifully terraced grounds and patio—are ideal for group gatherings, or relaxing with a good book.

This tropical dream home features a gourmet kitchen and built-in barbecue/dining in one of the many sheltered areas under the veranda. Myriad local activities provide fantastic exploration, dining and shopping adventures day and evening.

In their own words

From the first moment, I felt like a part of StepUP.

We hold each other accountable.

I know now: I can do drugs again but I’ll never have to.

The sense of support was instant. And it’s never ended.

Today, I can be a person who doesn't drink in a world that does
and know that is okay.

I believe that StepUP saved my life.

Above all, I realized the importance of service to others
and getting out of myself.

I can’t tell you how much that means to a guy, to be given hope.

StepUP made what we once thought was impossible...possible.

Through StepUP I realized that I am never alone
and I made friends that will last forever.

StepUP students’ stories are often full of heartache and tragedy and recklessness— but they turn to healing and redemption.
